Rivian Teases Five Vehicles in Investors Presentation

Rivian Teases Five Vehicles in Investors Presentation that is in development on June 26 to discuss Volkswagen Group’s planned investment of up to $5 billion in a technological joint venture.

  • Rivian teased five potential vehicles that are in development.
  • The teaser comes alongside the revelation that VW has invested $5 billion in Rivian.
  • The forthcoming cars may feature a smaller pickup truck, SUVs, and less costly EVs.

Bloomberg’s Corey Cantor revealed the image, which depicts cars, some of which are cloaked, placed in four columns according to the platforms on which they will sit.

The Gen 1 column shows Rivian’s current R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck, plus the commercial van the company originally developed for Amazon.

The Gen 2 column represents the updated platform that Rivian presented earlier this month in updated versions of the R1S and R1T arriving for the 2025 model year. It’s safe to assume the mystery vehicle in the Gen 2 column is an updated version of the commercial van.

The third column represents a platform Rivian refers to as the MSP, which stands for “Midsize platform.” This is the platform for the future R2 crossover and R3/R3X hatchback, and photos of both are shown on the slide in the MSP column. There’s also a veiled car, whose identification remains unclear. A smaller pickup truck built on the platform is one option, although it might also be a smaller commercial vehicle.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the presentation is what Rivian refers to as the Affordable Mass Market platform. Three cloaked vehicles are associated with this platform, whose identities are similarly unknown.

Rivian has already established a starting price of $45,000 for the R2 crossover, so the R3 range will most likely be less expensive. Rivian’s inexpensive Mass Market platform may be used to produce EVs priced to compete with Tesla’s inexpensive EV, which CEO Elon Musk has said might cost as little as $25,000.

Rivian is set to have another investor presentation later today, and the company may reveal further details about the mystery vehicles during the event.
